Got this from the Fast Company blog: 1. Length: Keep it short. 2. Content: Focus on news you can use. (Mostly tips and techniques that folks can learn quickly and put into action to improve their lives.) 3. Frequency: Commit to a regular production schedule. (FC suggests a "5-video work week," ala Gary Vaynerchuk.) 4. Create a channel, customize it and launch it. 5. Participate in the YouTube community. Is this storytelling? I think so. The structure of "news you can use" comes down to, "Here

And another thing--okay, skip to the last paragraph

I'm working through some memories about what has made NYVS a good experience over the past 12 months. Curious? A little of the benefit--precious little--is from the training videos. If you have just walked out of Ritz Camera (do they still have a Ritz Camera in NY someplace?) with a new camcorder in your anticipatory paws, or are walking across the Walmart parking lot with maybe a slightly lesser camcorder, having never ever before thought about the implications of pushing that little red "rec

Three days ago, January 24, I set out to film my project for the Video Storytelling Intermediate course. It's about my friend from work who fur traps. I scheduled the whole day to shoot and he drove me as far as he could into the mountains in his Ford Ranger. It had just snowed the previouse night, so there was four inches of fresh snow on about two inches of ice.  I'm really bummed out right now. I was going to attend the video bootcamp in New York this weekend but due to a last minute issue this week I could not go. :( :( :( I am going to go to the London gathering in February instead. I was very excited to go, to learn, to practice, to meet michael and lisa and the idea of having to wait another month is unbearable-haha. I'm on fire with launching my video business/company. To deal with it, I filmed more videos this week and will edit them this weekend

...it begs the question.

It's amazing how much character driven stories are what people gravitate to. I have been watching lots of movies lately and I now see flaws in the script because the story is about CGI and big effects instead of answering the questions that drive the story. I watched a movie playing on a plane about a gardener trying to raise his son. The premise is good, but the first 10 minutes of the story.....NOTHING HAPPENED. It was only 35 minutes into the story that something happened that moved the story
