Miramax Films Coming to FaceBook

http://www.fandango.com/movieblog/miramax-facebook-team-up-to-stream-movies-674768.html?wss=mktfacebook&snid=fanpage There's going to be video ALL OVER THE PLACE.  Somehow this is going to have to come down to a fewer reasonable places.  I think everything should come through Netflix.  NetFlix is the Wal-Mart of streaming movies.  Sure, there's other things out there, but why go to them when you know you can get what you want at one stop?  Of course, I hate Wal-Mart and their evil empire tactic

The Gimmick

gim·mick    [gim-ik] –noun 1. an ingenious or novel device, scheme, or stratagem, esp. one designed to attract attention or increase appeal. Michael highlighted a recent story about a "filmmaker" that secured distribution for his feature length story shot on a flip camera.  It's a great inspiring story.  The problem will be for anyone else thinking they can now go out and shoot on a flip and find fame.  It's HIGHLY unlikely. However, I'm not saying an average videographer can'

youtu.be/YufHjHKDpNY The YouTube link is to the video version of the above ad. So my friend Hank makes coffee and the other day I was telling him about NYVS and how I want to make a good video ASAP.  Hank says, "Make me a commercial" and of course it's for the usual deal; I get paid nothing and he hopefully gets lots of sales.  I saw a funny video about this a while back from @aplusk, but I think this time it's w

Epic films

I am unashamed to admit how much I love BIG of the Golden Era of Hollywood.  Knowing that they would build cities to shoot a film in.  Knowing that Charlton Heston was going to overact in spectaular sets.  I saw a clip of Speilberg talking about how he couldn't give the role of the Sheriff in Jaws to Heston because the shark wouldn't stand a chance.  That's what I'm talking about. I don't care for most CGI effects, in many ways I feel like there wasn't much work behind a scene that uses them.  Inception has a great scene where, in the dream world, everything on a city street starts exploding and the characters are just sitting there.  Nolan filmed this scene telling his actors to simply stay still as he blew up things around them.  That's a great scene!  Even though I could see the guy picking the flower out flinched a bit, that added to the seen. I want to make epic films. So many flix today are so unoriginal.  So many sequels, so much CGI.  Many people feel the same, HOWEVER where I veer off is that I still love the spectacle of a big movie, though I may not like the movie creating the spectacle.  Transformers for instance.  The plot, what there is, is very simple.  The robots are all CGI so there's not as many job opportunities for everyone, but it's always a spectacle.  It's always Transformer lunch boxes, transformer underwear, transformer cereal, transformer ringtones and more, more, more!  Cecil B. DeMille would probably have loved to see everything Ten Commandments.  How funny would that be today to have a blockbuster version of The Ten Commandments with Zak Efron as Moses and Taylor Lautner as Ramses leading an all pop star cast?! Ten Commandment ringtones, Ten Commandments Staff into Snakes toys are WalMart, Ten Commandment lunch boxes!  What would schools do?  Ten Commandment Happy Meals? With little plastic tablets and kids memorizing the commandments and quizzing each other. Ohh, that's just too funny!  Learning bit by bit at NYVideoSchool.com is helping me make my dreams of the (mini) blockbuster online video come to life.  The ACLU may even think about how to delete my post because I mention the Ten Commandments, but if I make a movie, nothing can stop that!  Nothing stops blockbuster movies for good or bad, nothing!!!

Several years ago some friends I knew started an online video site called VisionGateFilm.com  The site had a good forum, some great widgets and a nice look about it.  I was "president" of the site but had little influence over decisions.  One of the ideas I was working on was to move the site towards providing training for aspiring filmmakers & videographers.  They didn't think that was the best idea. Now several years later there's NYVS.  I think the idea is fantastic and the execution is
