CANON, who has made great progress with their DSLR cameras and helped change the entire concept of HiDef video and what it meant and cost has now officially crossed the line into feature films.
Canon's DSLRs had already been used to shoot commercial and popular TV series such as HOUSE, but that was more of a stunt than anything else - a demonstration of where the industry and the technology was headed.
Earlier today, Canon unveiled its C-300 digital video camera. This is not a DSLR. This is a camera designed specifically to make feature films, but to make the 'making' of feature films accessible to.. well, if not anyone, then almost anyone.
At $20,000, it's not cheap, but it's a lot less than a Panavision film camera, which you can't buy, but you can rent for $10,000 a week. Buying a Canon C-300 makes a lot more sense, and makes movie making open to a lot more people.
