So the Chicago International Film Festival announced the winner of their "Human Condition" video competition.

You can see it above.

Congrats to Sam Firth, who won $1000 for it.

I mean, it's OK, but it's far from genius.

A few years ago I was at the Prince Albert Young Filmmakers Awards ceremony.

There, they gave out a lot of money.. and a fancy plaque.

And believe me, the 'young filmmakers' stuff was nothing to write home about.

Or even want to look at.

All of which got me thinking about video and film awards and competitions.

Evey year we run the Concentra Prize for the best VJ piece. We give a prize of $10,000.

How many other prizes and awards are there for videos?

A cursory first look says that there are a lot!

Ravenswood Wines is offering a video competition with 4 prizes of $5,000 each.

I-attachments seems to be paying for music track videos and short films. I watched their video 3 times and I still don't quite get it, which tells me they need better videos right now!

Family Bones is offering a $1500 prize for the best video book trailer.

Tufts University is offering a $5000 prize for the best video for 'Capturing Change' for non-profits. The organizations may want to be non-profit, but there is no reason you should be.

Know someone who plays the guitar pretty well? Guitar Center is offering a $10,000 'shopping spree' prize for the video of the 'next Keith Urban' (I don't even know who the first Keith Urban was.. but if you do, maybe this is for you).

The Shine At Dinnertime Challenge is paying $10,000 plus a 'trip to NYC' (can I go to Paris instead?) for the best home cooking video.

This is just the beginning.
