Going Solo - WIth Oprah Gone, I Am Recommending A Book

Posted on June 7th, 2011 Written on michael's blog

Do you like this?

Someone has to fill the vacuum

OK.

The Oprah Winfrey Show is no more.

And hence, neither is Oprah's Book Club

Thus, I feel it incumbent upon me to fill the intellectual vacuum left by the demise of this great institution.

In that capacity, I am going to recommend Going Solo: Doing Videojournalism In the 21st Century by G. Stuart Smith, a professor of journalism as Hofstra University on Long Island (where my sister, who is now the Executive Producer for NY Live (every day fro 5-6 on NBC) went to school). She was also the EP for The Maury Povich Show and creator of 'who's the baby daddy?', but more on that another time.

G. Stuart Smith has written a wonderful book on the introduction and rise the Videojournalism model in newsgathering around the world.

How do I know it's a wonderful book?

The first chapter is entitled "The Rosenblum Model"

And he starts his book with the sentence: "Michael Rosenblum is practically synonymous with the term VJ."

Do I have to read any more?

Of course I do! With such a gripping open, who can put it down?

Not me!

In any event, if you would like to buy the book, here's the link for that.

Personally, I can't wait for the movie.

Who should play the lead? Brad Pitt?

My wife says Dustin Hoffman.. or maybe Gilbert Gotfried, now that he is out of work.
