How To Narrate A Video Piece

Posted on October 24th, 2011 Written on michael's blog

Do you like this?

Just talk...

This weekend we ran an intensive video training bootcamp right here at the Museum Tower - which made life easier for us and more pleasant for our students.

A few weeks ago, we talked about 'how to narrate' a piece.

As you know, I am a great fan of 'not scriptwriting' but rather of storytelling.

And the easiest way to tell a great story is just to tell it - while watching the pictures that are going to drive your story.

Of course, MacBooks have microphones, but they are about as big as this:  O

You can get much better audio on direct narration to timeline with the simple addition of a USB Microphone, like the one bootcamp student Shaheen Meghji is using above.

This one is made by M Audio and it costs about $100.

Just plug it into your USB port and start talking.

Here's a pretty good review from PC Magazine.

NB: Brian Searl tweets that he likes this one better. Still under $100

Using my Zoom H4N on a little stand on my desk, while I watch the video to be narrated, works awesome! You still have to sync with the video but since I use FCP its a total snap.
