How To Use Video To Sell Yourself (And Invent Yourself!)

Live! From our living room....

The whole world of careers has been turned upside down.

It used to be that you got a skill, you got a job and you went to work for a company and that was it.

Today, it's all...different.

The Internet and the social networks have turned the working world on its head.

What do you need to do to survive?

Here's a good idea:  Use video to re-invent yourself.

In the world of Reality TV, 'personalilities - even the most banal ones, are worth a lot. A lot more than they used to be. And in the world of the web, anyone can be a star.

Anyone.

And it's all about personalities and people now.

Many years ago, when I was first starting out, my first business partner and investor was a Swedish billionaire named Jan Stenbeck.  I was a kid running around with a video camera. He said to me: "From now on, you are the world's expert in video journalism".  I said that was ridiculous. I was a kid with a video camera living in a walk up in Brooklyn. He said, "No. From now on you are the world's expert. Let other people say you are not. You keep saying it."  So I did. And in a few years, I was. And I suddenly found myself in great demand.  Thanks to Jan Stenbeck I 'invented' myself.

You can do the same.

When people watch Tony Bourdain on The Travel Channel, they don't watch it for the locations, even though it is the Travel Channel. They don't turn it off if he goes to Tokyo or Sao Paolo.  Where he goes, in fact, is an abstraction. They watch it for him.  He was once a mediocre cook in a mediocre restaurant, but he re-invented himself as a traveling food expert. And his vehicle for that re-invention was television.

Today, you don't need The Travel Channel to sign a contract with you, (and you don't need the backing of a Swedish billionaire). You have your video camera and the web and that's all it takes to create your own 'show' and your own platform for your own personal expertise

So go ahead.

Be Bold!

Invent Yourself as the World Expert on Whatever.

The world is always in search of new heros (just look at the GOP primaries!)

And you can do it without a PAC.

So be sure to tune in to our own 'show' tomorrow here on nyvs  at noon.

Learn how to create your own career.

Trust me. I am, after all, the world expert on this!
