KILLER SHARKS OF SOUTH AFRICA - Pitching a series

Posted on March 28th, 2010 Written on michael's blog

Do you like this?

We were down in Cape Town, South Africa last month running a VJ training bootcamp in partnership with Tape Town, a South African production company.

While we were there, there was a great white shark attack just off the beaches in Cape Town.

The attacking shark, the papers said, was 'the size of a small bus'.

Well, you don't see that kind of thing every day, unless, or course, you are swimming in South Africa.

So I turned to our SA (or ZA) partners and said, 'here's a series'.

Well, the best way to sell a series is to create a promo. And they got to it.

I got it yesterday.

Love it!

Check it out.

Tell me, would you watch this?

Luis H....good idea! Helmet Cams. I too am not a fan of reenactments....BORING! I prefer the real thing. I do like everything about how the video was filmed/edited. Well done.

It's good and could work for an audience, but in my personal opinion, I wouldn't watch it because I'm not too much into reenactment within a reality-style TV show, this kills my "reality" expectations. Also, it's too similar to others like "When Animals Attack" or "Untamed and Uncut". Even if this is only featuring Killer Sharks from South Africa, I'd prefer live footage of the stories they tell instead of reenactments. Surfers, start wearing helmet cams when surfing, you might end up getting attacked and being on TV!
