NPR, Radiolab and Video

Posted on February 6th, 2011 Written on michael's blog

Do you like this?

When the folks at NPR start to play with video...

I like NPR.

I listen to it every morning while I am preparing breakfast.

I particularly like it on the weekends.

NPR does great radio.

Now, like everyone else, NPR is starting to edge into video.

(And I don't mean putting video cameras in the NPR radio studios. I tried that one about 15 years ago with a pilot for PBS called This Week Considered with Scott Simon. One day I will post that).

Meanwhile... here's an example of NPR's Radiolab playing with video.

It's callee WORDS

And it was produced by Will Hoffman, Daniel Mercadante and Julius Metoyer III.

Also, kudos to Ali Carron in the UK who turned me on to this one.@thealicarron

There are six words buried in the video. See if you can find them.

Also note: they don't move the camera either

Really nice job.

Hey Michael , thanks for the tag. I have been really inspired by the bootcamp we did last year. So much so I am in the middle of shooting a taster pitch film for BBC Comedy. In this uncertain world it's great to feel there is another way and shooting /editing ones own stuff is incredibly liberating even though a tad scary , the fun out weighs moments of wobbly buttocks!

I've actually seen this before but had no idea it was done by NPR. It makes sense though...very smart.

I love NPR, (except when they do music or attempt humor)

Remarkable. Fixed camera assures me that everything I need to come to terms with the video, resides in this frame. Remarkable and worth emulating. And as a potential maker of videos, a little intimidating.
