Some Great Effects and a Look at the Work of Trey Ratcliff

Posted on December 3rd, 2010 Written on michael's blog

Do you like this?

Hollywood spends millions to get this effect - now you can do it for free

Graeme Taylor of Straylight, a UK based production company has posted a nifty guide and demo of his glidecam technique.

You're seen this effect a dozen times in Hollywood feature films.

There, it involves about a hundred people and a day of planning to get the shot right.

Taylor has worked out a way to do this with a handy-cam and hand held.

Unbelievable.

Trey Ratcliff gives a similar demonstration with his very cool video Stuck in Customs and a very complete explanation of how he carries off this very powerful effect.

Here's a talk by Trey Ratcliff at Google.

He's got a really interest approach to photography called HDR, which creates an image that is much closer to what the human eye sees than what conventional cameras can record.

Yes, it appears I just missed you! I was walking in while you were headed to the airport. Loved talking to Emi and Alex though, so it was well worth the trip. The office had that cool, indie, hip vibe going on. LOVED the Barber Shop sign. I'll be there again when you're back.

From doing a little research the Casio camera captures 210 fps. There are other Casio cameras that can capture up to 1,200 fps, which would make from some interesting shots to build a story around. Not free, but not very expensive to create a rockin' scene. Add this with tilt shift & an interesting story & who knows? Hoping to sell a few laptops to afford one of this Casio digital cams.
