Unbelievable... and a taste of what is possible...
In 2008, Youtube and Google commissioned Chinese conductor Tan Dun to carry out an entirely new an novel idea.
He would open auditions for The Youtube Symphony Orchestra to anyone anywhere in the world who wanted to play - all they had to do was submit a video of them playing.
The idea caught on and now Youtube is launching its second season - this year to be held in Sydney, Australia.
The orchestra is interesting, but more interesting is what Tan Dun did with the submission videos
He created a mashup that resulted in the world's first crowd sourced symphony.
It premiered on April 15 this year at Carnegie Hall in NY.
Now, as you can see from the video clip above, the whole concept of crowd-sourcing and mashing content is both new and very interesting.
And it's not limited to symphony orchestras (though that's pretty impressive).
I came across this yesterday:
While Google and Youtube have gotten a lot of play - more than 15 million views on the symphony, the Redd The Movie site has only gotten 142.. so far, but th idea is interesting - crowdsource and mashup a movie.
Here's the link to the site Reddincthemovie.
It's an interesting idea.
Why does a symphony orchestra have to be linear and in one room?
Why does a movie have to be shot by one studio in one place with all the predicatable players?
Interesting...
