The Museum of Modern Art, Barnett Newman and Video

Do you like this?

you too can learn to be a modern artist.

Everyone is getting into the online video business, and more specifically, everyone is getting into the online education by online video business (me too).

Now, the Musuem of Modern Art is doing the same thing.

They're offering online learn about Modern Art courses.

And the videos are pretty good.

There are two lessons to be learnt here.

1.  Everyone is getting into the niche learn online for a fee by video business.  It's just starting but it appears to be the way to go.  If you have a niche to teach people, make a few videos and charge for em.

2. This stuff could have been terrible. Ever been to an art lecture at The Met for example.  Ever taken Art 101 in college.  A professor drones on as a slide show goes on behind him - 'undulating lines'.  Snore.

Here, the folks at MoMA have made some really compelling videos.  First, they have gotten some very entertaining and compelling lecturers.  Entertaining is important.  Second, they break away and do a hands-on, how did they do that, which is great. That, after all, is what video is all about.

Here's another one about Ad Renihardt - talk about impenetrable.

I have seen these paintings a hundred times (I live on top of the MoMA), but I never looked at them in this way.

Great job MoMA - I learned a lot.. about both art and video.
