VBS-TV Welcome to the Post TV World

Do you like this?

An insight into the next generation of online video TV

A few years ago I was on a panel at the Concentra Awards with the guys from Vice Magazine.

They were smart, hip, edgy and very driven to change the nature of media.

At that time they were talking about launching an online TV/cable service - free, and without the cable.. or the TV for that matter.

Now they've done it.

VBS-TV

And it's pretty good.

And they're really just getting started.

My friend Ted Stroll turned me on to this in response to my posting about the predictable crap TV producers who won the DuPonts. Same old, same old - 60 Minutes, 20/20. They could have been the nominees from 1973.

Check out this piece on Pirate Radio in London

The whole thing reminds me of what Richard Branson would be doing today if he were in his 20s.

And he did OK.

The driving creative force behind this is Spike Jonze.

In case you have never heard of Spike Jonze, here's the short list of his accomplishments so far:

Selected Filmography Director Adaptation (2002) - nominated for 4 Academy Awards - nominated for Golden Globe Best Director Being John Malkovich (1999) - nominated for 3 Academy Awards, including Best Director Producer Synecdoche, New York (2007) Jackass Number Two (2006) Jackass: The Movie (2002) Human Nature (2001) Documentaries Amarillo By Morning (1998) What’s Up, Fatlip? (2003) Al Gore Documentary (2000) Music Videos , Director Sabotage – Beastie Boys (1994) Buddy Holly – Weezer (1994) It’s Oh So Quiet – Bjork (1995) Drop – The Pharcyde (1996) Praise You – Fatboy Slim (1998) Weapon Of Choice – Fatboy Slim (2000)

Good bet for another success?

I think so.

If you're looking for some insight as to what the post-TV world is going to look like, VBS.TV is probably a good place to start.
