What The Web Is Telling Us

Every month, Mashable delivers to us a list of the top 10 most watched web video series.

We always like to say that the web is a kind of 100% focus group. The people online will tell you exactly what it is they like.

As making TV (or video, the two terms are pretty much interchangeable) falls into more and more hands, and more and more people start bypassing the traditional networks and posting their own series online, we can get a pretty good sense of what it is people want to watch.

Herewith, the top three most watched video series online for October 2010.

The interesting thing, in looking, not just at the top 3, but at the top 10 is that for the most part, with the exception of The Annoying Orange (which is funny the first few times but then gets pretty predictable and annoying after the third or fourth iteration), is that almost everything else is a music video - a kind of extended music video. Or a mashup music video.

This is interesting.

It's interesting in that what you pretty much never see on television (conventional television) is any kind of music video.

But now we're dealing with a generation that came of age to MTV and music videos as a constant source of information and entertainment.

Maybe the web is telling the networks something they should listen to.

I am not saying this stuff is great.

To me, it only shows that the opportunities to break out with something really interesting and clever and well done have yet to be tapped.

But you can't argue with success.

(Of course, you can, but really what's the point? Instead, go for your own).

AutoTune The News - Number three for October with 30,461,000 views
