So while we're talking about the future of backpack journalism, here's an interesting idea for a new accessory. How about a drone?
Yes, we're talking about the same technology that the U.S. military used to track down Osama bin Laden. But what if we attached a video camera, and use the drones to cover natural disasters, terrorist attacks, urban riots, political protests, and such. Rather than rent a helicopter, the backpack journalist could just attach a GoPro to a portable drone, send it aloft, and cover the action from above.
Far fetched? Not according to
this article from Fast Company, which says researchers at the University of Nebraska are working on just that scenario.
