Francisco, I recently when to a convention-type location to interview people displaying they're products at their tables. I used the Sennheiser MKE 400, a small external mic, attached to my camcorder. I like it because it's compact, and easy to carry, but the problem is that it captured lots of the noise around the room. Do you think a "dead cat" placed over the mic would have helped filter that out?

My shotgun mic has a switch on it: 1) shotgun 2) 90 degrees 3) 120 degrees stereo. When doing interviews outdoors, should I leave it on the shot gun setting? What's the difference?
