Now that Cisco is retiring the FlipCam, the Kodak Vi8 is a good option. It comes with an external mic port and can record at 1080p or 720p HD.

Love the Flip for it's ability to take anywhere and not intimidate those I'm shooting. Love this overview from my favorite instructor.
