I bought three clamp lamps and parchment paper. I used the three point lighting technique with the lamps and created softer light by taping parchment paper on the ones that needed the softer light. I also wrapped aluminum all over a poster board to diffuse the light...all under $30 its amazing. I interviewed a music producer in my area and it worked wonders...here is a link to the bloopers video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKU8trzP-7g. Please excuse the awful quality.
