Do you have any suggestions for creating a video for uploading to youtube. I tried to "share" my video in Final Cut on youtube and it's taking over an hour for a 2:15 minute video. I tried to directly upload my .mov file to youtube and that was going to take 30 minutes. Am I doing something wrong?
Nice video! Depending on how many effects, filters and transitions you have, it could take a bit longer than usual, and 15 minutes for a 2 min sequence is actually pretty good. Don't know why you text would have changed color, or why a transition would be weird, but I'll see what I can find out about that.
Thanks Kelly. I've been doing that. It still takes about 15 minutes for a clip under 2 minutes. The other weird thing that is happening is that my text is not showing up the right colors and some of the other colors are off. My text is supposed to be black but it's a reddish color. Also, my one of the transitions I put in looks weird but, I suppose at this point, I'll just leave it all. I just wish things would upload the way I want them to look. FYI, here is a link to the video I'm talking about - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z65oWn9J2lw. Thanks for your help.
Well, your computer if definitely powerful enough. I would try re-starting before attempting the YouTube
share conversion (or any other conversion/compression), keeping other applications closed and not working on the computer while the sequence is exporting. I've have a 75% reduction in export time, just by following these simple steps. Good Luck and let us know how it goes.
Thank you so much for your help. Here is the information...

Exporting a compressed file (i.e. anything other than the straight quicktime export, which can be huge) can indeed take as long as it did for you. How long this takes largely depends on how fast and what kind of processor your computer has, how much RAM you have can also be a factor. You can't change your processor speed (without buying a new computer) but you can add RAM. Can you tell me the specs of the Mac you'r working on? To do this, go to the Apple menu in the finder, choose "About this Mac", then click on "More Info". Let me know all the info down to the Memory line. The YouTube export is a very good, solid compression codec, but it takes a lot of power to do it quickly. The final export may have been choppy because your processor was having a hard time. A couple of tips for exporting in general: Always restart your computer before you export to re-set the RAM and to close any extraneous applications that might be running, Don't attempt to use your computer for anything else while your movie is exporting.
