i want to get a new computer, laptop or desk, that will edit hdv .im going to use sony vegas software,im on a budget, dont need the most expensive just a good one.can anyone tell me what to get? thanks
First, you'll get a lot more bang for your buck if you purchase a desktop computer instead of a laptop. You'll pay a premium to have the identical specs in a laptop (power plus portability= $$).
Sony Vegas lists the minimum system requirements as:
Microsoft Windows XP 32-bit SP3, Windows Vista 32-bit or 64-bit SP2, or Windows 7 32-bit or 64-bit.
2 GHz processor (multicore or multiprocessor CPU recommended for HD or stereoscopic 3D), 400 MB hard-disk space for program installation
1 GB RAM (2 GB recommended)
OHCI-compatible i.LINK® connector/IEEE-1394DV card (for DV and HDV capture and print-to-tape)
USB 2.0 connection (for importing from AVCHD, XDCAM EX, NXCAM, or DVD camcorders)
Windows-compatible sound card
DVD-ROM drive (for installation from a DVD only)
Supported CD-recordable drive (for CD burning only)
Supported DVD-R/-RW/+R/+RW (for DVD burning only)
Supported BD-R/-RE drive (for Blu-ray Disc burning only)
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 (included on application disc)
Apple QuickTime 7.1.6 or later
Remember that these are the minimum requirements. So even though Sony recommends a 2 GHz processor, you'll likely need at least a 2.5 GHz one if you want to get anything done. And 1GB of ram isn't very much (which is why Sony recommends 2 GB of ram), but ram isn't that expensive and it's always a good idea to have as much as you can get).
I know that some PC users look for gaming laptops/ computers since they have a really robust video card.
Good luck, and let us know what you end up getting!
