Thread : VIDEO PRODUCTION COMPANY - EQUIPMENT HELP!?
Posted on Dec 05, 2011 at 02:16 pm
HI ALL,
WITH CREATING AMATEUR VIDEOS FOR THE PAST YEAR I FINALLY WILL BE PARTNERING UP WITH A FELLOW MUSIC PRODUCER TO PROVIDE LOW BUDGET BUT DECENT MUSIC VIDEOS AND PHOTOGRAPHY TO BANDS, AND ARTISTS. I CURRENTLY HAVE A CANON XH A1 CAMCORDER AND WILL BE PURCHASING A CANON REBEL T3i DSLR. I WILL BE USING THE DSLR FOR BOTH PHOTOGRAPHY AND AS A SECONDARY CAMERA FOR VIDEO SHOOTS. MY QUESTION IS:
WILL I BE ABLE TO PRODUCE 720P OR 1080I VIDEO QUALITY IF I USEDBOTHTHE TAPE CAMCORDER AND DSLR? IN THE PAST I HAVE UPLOADED VIDEOS THAT I THOUGHT ARE HD FROM MY CAMCORDER BUT HAVE BEEN A MAX OF 480P ON YOUTUBE. IDK IF THIS HAS TO DO WITH SHOOTING, LIGHTING, IMPORTING, MINI DVS, FILTERS I USE, EXPORTING, ETC... I AM LEARNING AND MOST LIKELY WILL BE USING FINAL CUT PRO X.
LIVE PERFORMANCE - 1080 HD ON YOUTUBE

MUSIC VIDEO - 480P ON YOUTUBE (USED HIGH GAIN WHILE FILMING, MAY THIS BE A REASON WHY NO 720P?)
Kelly thank you so much for the help! You have truly educated me on so much! I Look forward to working on some new material for various bands. I have been learning all the details of using the t3i. The picture quality is fantastic. However, I would like to make use of both cameras since I still love my canon xh a1, however it only shoots at 24f 30f and 60i. I wanted to know if it was okay to mix the two cameras (xh a1 camcorder at 24f, and t3i at 24p).. I choose 24 over the 30 since I everyone says it gives you the more refined, clear, lesser noise, motion (movie) picture quality. However, I don't know if a noticeable difference will occur if I use footage from the 24f and 24p footage from both cameras? SHould I consider selling the camcorder since the dslr proves to project 1080p? I will be importing using a USB from the DSLR into iPhoto or iMovie and a firewire from the XH A1. I will take your points and keep you updated. Thank you for the lessons on tcp x and motion!!!
Yes the cameras will work together in p mode in 720p or 1080p(hdslrs don't do "I"). You might consider using using the T3i as a primary camera as it will give a much more distinctive look if it is used correctly (so not just in the automatic mode). As for your 480P issue, there are three things that will determine your final resolution: what resolution you shoot at, what resolution you import at, and what resolution you export. It's also not a bad idea to check the resolution that you're editing with (e.g. The timeline) as this may be the default setting for your export,, depending on your edit software. Hope this helps. Be sure to post what you shoot, so we can see it!
