This July, I made a video for a woman who runs a federal program where they give out free breakfast and lunch to underprivileged children. She's been running this program for years and this year they provided food for 4,000 kids. I had told her that I was making videos and that I needed practice so she asked me to make a video about her program. She hadn't planned on doing the video so she had no budget but I needed the practice so I agreed to do it for free. I spent 3 days observing the program and I shot every important step of the process. A week later I gave them a 10 min. video about their program and they loved it. I was happy and they were happy.
Yesterday I got a call from her and she was frantic. She had sent my video to the Department of Education (because they oversee and fund the program) and she got a call back saying that they loved it so much that they wanted to feature it in their National Convention this friday. They also asked her to come and speak about her project and talk about the video. After years of working for them, this was the first time they had ever invited her to the convention (she was almost crying when she told me this).
So thanks NYVS because the skills you gave me have not only helped me, but they have helped a woman who has worked really hard throughout her entire life. Thanks to that video, she's been able to show her superiors the results of her hard work.
I'm glad you liked my story... This past Friday was the convention that Odette (the woman who runs the program's name) was invited to and she gave me a call on Saturday. She said that after they played the video, everyone (including the Head of the Department of Education) went over to congratulate her on her work and that some even asked for her autograph. She said she felt like J.LO! It made me really happy to hear this.
Now she's already thinking about what we're going to do for the next video (because she Definitely wants a 2nd one)
This was such an amazing way for you to gain experience and reach out to the community at the same time. You're really inspiring. Congratulations to the caring woman who runs the program! I would love to see the video up here, would you post it for us all?
