Thread : Need Help Purchasing a Pro HD Video Camera
Posted on Jan 18, 2012 at 09:07 pm
I'm looking at video cameras and trying to decide which one is best for me, but it's really confusing! There are so many choices! I've watched the tutorial videos, and I've been online reading countless reviews. I need some help.
I'm looking for a Pro HD Camera under $1,500.00. I'm making martial arts training videos for the web and DVD formats. I need to hook up some type of external pro audio solution, and I'll be using the lighting talked about in the online courses. I think I like the cameras with the internal hard drive storage. Below are a list of cameras I've looked at so far. (The Sony HDR-TD10 shoots in 3D! What is up with that?)
1. Sony HDR-CX700V
2. Canon VIXIA HF G10 Full HD Camcorder
3. Panasonic AVCCAM AG-HMC40
4. Sony Handycam HDR-TD10 (3D Model)
I'll accept any recommendations, alternatives, advise, etc.. A thousand thank you's in advance!!
CRungoo ~ The Canon VIXIA HF G10 is a nice camcorder. It comes with several add-on packages that offer a ton of extras. It’s about $400 - $500 more than the Sony HDR-CX700, but since you recommend it, and since it comes with all the extra stuff, I believe it’s worth the cost. I’ve been reading the reviews and not much bad is said about it. I think the Canon camcorder should last me a few years and I’ll have plenty of camera features to grow into.
I also need editing software. I’m not making Hollywood movies, so products like Adobe After Effects are a bit much for me. I need something that is easy to learn and use and that can create title bars at the bottom of the screen for text (labeling kicks, punches, blocks, form and weapon names, etc.) Major graphics work isn’t necessary, but I’d like to be able to incorporate a Kung Fu logo in the title bar or at the beginning and ending of the videos. I’d also like to add on screen text and draw arrows and circles on the screen to better explain concepts to viewers. Any recommendations would be helpful.
CRungoo ~ I like the look of both of those Canon cameras, but I think they're a bit out of my price range. I'm not shooting for TV, so I don't need tape, and I don't plan on getting too fancy with movie quality shots, so I don't need tons of manual features. I'll mostly be filming solo using a tripod and then demonstrating techniques in front of the camera. Not many hand-held shots either. If you have any info or advice on the cameras I listed above I'd like to hear it. I'm kinda' leaning towards the Sony HDR-CX700V.
Im on the same boat Im looking into the Canon xf105. I have experience with canon and they are great camcorders. However I am selling my Canon XH A1 which is beautiful. It shoots 1080i with 3ccd performance. E-mail me if you are interested. I've had it for a year and its in great condition.
I checked out the Sony Handycam HDR-TD10 (3D Model) at Beat Buy. I believe 3D is more a novelty than a valid video format for training videos. I still don’t have much info on the other three cameras. Any advice, comments, suggestions, etc. would be great!!
