Here's an observation for you. Ran a training course in Cape Town, SA yesterday. It was filled with professional journalists who want to learn how to do video. The problem is that all of them are far too 'earnest'. That is, they are far too fixated on the Voice of God journalism that is all around us. No one wants Dan Rather at breakfast!

It is all entertainment. If you want to read a great book about, let me recommend Amusing Ourselves To Death by Neil Postman 1 : Helpful Not Helpful

Limbaugh isn't news.. nor does he call himself a journalist. He is an entertainer doing opinion/editorial. While Fox News is primarily programs with conservative hosts, they do air a news segment hourly which is pretty straight forward. In the end, imo, it is all show business. Helpful Not Helpful

Great to hear you were in SA and ran a training course in Cape Town! Have you thought about doing one here in Johannesburg? Thanks for the awesome tutorials. Helpful Not Helpful

Hi Johnny No, I am totally against the Voice of God thing. I was once, many years ago, given a shot at being on air. They said I sounded like Brooklyn Public Television. But... but..it's New York, I said. They didn't care. They liked guys who sounded like they came from Minnesota, even if it is in the Big Apple. NO MORE! Helpful Not Helpful

Edward R. Murrow with an Afrikaans accent, eh? Long live American irreverence! Then again, as long as they don't emulate Fox News or Limbaugh we should be thankful. Helpful Not Helpful

Hi Micheal, I hope your not defining serious coverage as being,"the voice of God." As an ex-vet,body guard and all that other 'serious stuff' I am kind of looking forward to getting back in the mix behind the vid cam instead of as a weapon. Surely there is room for this type of VJ work in the world. Helpful Not Helpful
