This is a good example of how the 5-Shot technique works really well JEUG but you need to get much closer to the subject. A close-up should be really close to enable the viewer to see the detail, especially for online video. You also have a major back-lighting issue here from the kitchen window and you can see that as Claudia moves her head and blocks out more of the light behind her, the exposure on her face improves. Try not to shoot against windows and if you have no choice then frame as much of the window out as you possibly can and force the camera to focus on your subject rather than the background. A word also about the editing; the idea of editing is to compress real time and at 4 minutes I found this video very long. It was like an instructional video on how to ice a cake. Using real close-up shots of Claudia's hands as she's doing the frosting would enable you to compress the action and get from one event in the process to the next more quickly.

That looks great! I want some! If you are open to feedback, please read on, otherwise, enjoy that cake! lol The only thing that I was really longing for during your project, was to see the whole process, not just the frosting, also a close up at the end of somone taking a bite of the finished cake would have been very gratifying and cathartic for the viewer. You opened with grabbing the eggs, so my immediate expectation was to see them being cracked and mixed. To be fair, however, I'm not sure what the assignment was or what purpose you were trying to serve. If that's the case, please disregard. I look forward to your next project. Helpful Not Helpful

I found myself enjoying this. Please sort through my comments here--I want mainly to address the exercise you are working on, adding other things incidentally. Your story moves along, slightly impeded by loose edits (a shot lingering where nothing is being conveyed). The five shoot method works as Michael said it would, of course, suffers only from extra distance from the cake, from the hands/fingers, from the Talent's face, from the crumbs on the table. I wanted, seriously, to see those crumbs up close and tasty. Really close. Two other thoughts, keeping this simple and direct: one, try using a reflective light screen (white paper will do the trick, too) off-camera, to give detail and color and emphasis to the face which is otherwise hidden in shadow. Second, the background music is upbeat, yes, which is usually good, but here I think it distracts from the simple winsomeness of the activity. I hope this helps. Your instincts for storytelling show much promise: keep it up, please. Helpful Not Helpful
