About this video

The client requested to shoot a video profile to help her with expanding her marketing to other organizations and wanted a personal feel to the finished piece. We collaborated on the project and the end result uses a mix of b/w

Production Specifics: All production was done solo - ie; I managed both cameras and audio as well as interviewing the subject.

Well Cliff you've certainly had lots of feedback on this video and I agree with many of the comments; I love the stylized treatment and the power of black and white is palpable. I completely agree with the comments about the side shot of Janice as it's distracting. What works really well is the addition of the b-roll as it gives an additional dimension to Janice and therefore to the piece. I understand you made this video to be part of Janice's own website and therefore we're not seeing it in context but seeing it like this I am wondering who she is throughout the entire film. I think to caption her or have her introduce herself would help a lot, wherever you're watching it and of course the viral nature of video means you never know.

I like the camera work. Great job. Her message was very clear and you represented her well. I would agree with Angelachanpoyiu that the profile shot is not flattering to her features. I would say that rotating the angle about 10 degrees toward the center line of her face would have added more of her right eye and helped to flatter her face. Typically a profile shot only shows half the face (nothing more) and when there is more showing... it is distracting. Also, I might have used short lighting on her with a very large and soft light source to fill in the shadows on her nose (did she break her nose sometime in her life?). She is definitely a beautiful lady and this is why I would choose to use the large soft light source close to her (large window with a diffusion panel or a large softbox). Other than that, I like your shooting style and camera work. The audio and editing was good too! I like the B&W also. It was just the right touch. Helpful Not Helpful

Great story telling. Just one recommendation, the side shot, it will be more convincing if we can still capture the spirit of her eyes. Keeping the gait of the eyes maintains a good level of communication. Her profile shot seems a bit flat (it will be helpful if we can see her right eye as well). Helpful Not Helpful

I liked the video very much. I'm not an expert buy any stretch. To me, this came across as sort of a motivational video. I think if she were running for a political office or teacher or even HR Rep. This would land a job for her. I still don't know enough to critique on technique but from what I've learned in the story telling tutorials this was a well done video. Helpful Not Helpful

One of the best I have seen on NYVS, had me really getting into it Great shots of the woman and effects, good interview as well. Sometimes you move to some shots of the subject thats the only thing I picked up that was pointless.. Helpful Not Helpful
