About this video

A city where ‘racial harmony reigns supreme’, Singapore is a city unabashed about its food, faith and fun. And just when you think you’ve seen or done it all, there’s more around the corner.

Love the titles and the opening! The split screen also gives your piece an excellent look. Though, there are a few pans and shaky shots that take away from the professional look of this piece. The day to night pan is an extremely difficult shot to get! A great stable shot will give much more to your piece than an almost executed really cool movement shot. It’s much easier to match a stable shot. Also, I know you’re traveling, but some shots could use a tripod, or maybe look into getting a monopod. Panning in 2 directions at 4:02 makes the handheld nature of the shot noticeable! The cut to the light show is also distractingly shaky and around 4:40 panning to an unstable shot of the chorus takes away from the amazing performance that we’re watching. Also MHart couldn’t have said it better with using the 5 shot method and then getting an interview as the ice cream vendor worked! Keep making video’s travelbug! You made a very entertaining one here!

Thanks Alyssa. The entire video was shot with my iPhone 4S, including all of the location sound. No additional hardware was used, not even a tripod. The music is from a website called freeplaymusic. Normally I edit all my videos in After Effects, but just for kicks, I edited this one in Premiere. Helpful Not Helpful

Great mix of music and location sound. What did you use to record? Helpful Not Helpful

Yes. I agree. That was a great moment when he was interacting with the children. I think that, if you find yourself in that situation again, just try to get some close ups. Michael has some great tutorials for storytelling. The 5 shot method makes shooting a lot easier. Then, just catch an interview while he's doing his thing. Can't wait to see where you go next! Thanks pjmace and MHart for your kind remarks. Yes, it was intended to be more of an overview of Singapore's diversity and culture, than a story. Personally, my favorite part is the Turkish ice cream vendor at the 2:30 mark. I would have loved to do a story on just him, if he wasn't so busy all the time. Helpful Not Helpful
